We had another great RS Activity last night. We can not thank our board enough for the work they put into these activities. We have been so impressed!
Thank you to everyone that donated to the food bank. We had several people ask us to continue the donations. We will have the box available again this Sunday for those that forgot or were unable to attend.
We'd also like to thank everyone that came last night. One of our more populated activities! We know it's hard to get away and sometimes you just don't want to leave the house one more night but, it is such a great way to make friends and get to know the people in our ward. Our board puts in a lot of time and energy into these activities and attendance is their reward.
We started the night with a guest speaker, Lori Scovill. A teacher and psychologist with a very energetic, bubbly personality. She was great and left us very motivated to be better wives and moms.
A few highlights from her talk:
Matthew 22: 36-40
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou salt love thy neighbor as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Ezra Taft Benson said: The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes me, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature.
Sister Scovill had 5 points of wisdom to offer us:
5. Feel and Show Gratitude. Make gratitude lists, say gratitude prayers and remember to always say Thank You! Tell your kids and husband thank you and they will start thanking you.
4. Hug! Hugging relieves stress, boosts feelings of closeness, and even squelches pain. In one study, people assigned to give 5 hugs each day for a month, aiming to his as many people as they could, became happier.
3. Happy dance or The Magic of the 5 to 1 Ratio. Sister Scovill started a happy dance with her daughter that carried over into every part of her life, work included. When anything good happened, big or small, she would do a happy dance with that person. It's hard to be sad when you are dancing!
The 5-1 Ration is that any time you say something negative to someone you owe them 5 compliments. This includes your husband and children but, as important, yourself.
2. Scripture Study and Pondering. Not just reading, studying.
1. Prayer. As important as praying, is listening.
A huge thank you to Lucy, Sharolyn, and Brooke for your awesome classes!
Unfortunately, I only have information to share from the healthy cooking class since I couldn't be in three places at one time. But, overwhelming praises were heard for all three classes.
Not officially part of a class but, there were some recipes to share from the board that contained some "sneaky" substitutions to hopefully get your family eating healthier.

From Sharolyn Thayer's healthy eating class:
One of the suggestions was to have a plate of veggies and fruits made up every day while serving dinner or for a healthy snack after school. If the food is cut up and out of the fridge, it is more likely to get eaten.

Mix in blender until smooth. Enjoy!
