We had a combined lesson today with RS and Priesthood that was led by a guest speaker. Brother Walsh, father of the Walsh families in our ward.
Brother Walsh started his lesson with a quote from President Wilford Woodruff. "...This whole people would lose interest in the world and spend their time redeeming the dead."
What is indexing?
The church is spending a lot of time taking the old microfiche films, scanning them to a digitalized form. The indexing program then uses those records through a volunteer program within the church. They then collect the information and as volunteers we go in and extract the vital information off of each record. You create a database, a different entry for each name in the list. So, when we go in later and do research on our ancestors the information is there.
After Brother Walsh talked, we watched a video put out by the church called Turning Their Hearts. An actual documentary based on real people and real examples of how doing their church history has changed their lives.
D&C 110: 15
"To turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers, lest the whole earth be smitten with a curse-"
Our stake as done over 160,000 names so far. Our ward leads the stake in the number of names that have been indexed largely in part to Sister Schroedter. She has done over 60,000 names herself. Yea, Sis. Schroedter!
The stake is asking everyone to at least try indexing. Older children, teens and adults can do this process easily...Great Family Home Evening activity!
