Sunday's Relief Society Lesson

Our new Relief Society President, Becky Peterson, gave a wonderful Fast Sunday lesson yesterday.  She spoke to us about who we are as Relief Society sisters. The Relief Society is the oldest and largest women's organization in the world.  It was established in 1842. Our theme is "Charity Never Faileth". Who needs to be part of a sorority when you can be part of a worldwide sisterhood?

She shared her feelings that the Relief Society Declaration is a recipe for joy, peace, and hope in our lives, as well as guiding us toward our salvation.  She had us all recite this Relief Society Theme together, just as the young women stand each week and say their young women's theme to remember who they are as daughters of God.  There is true power and meaning in these words.  It reminds us who we are!

THE RELIEF SOCIETY OF THE CHURH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

"We are beloved spirit daughters of God, and our lives have meaning, purpose, and direction.
As a worldwide sisterhood, we are united in our devotion to Jesus Christ, our Savior and Exemplar.
We are women of faith, virtue, vision, and charity who:

Increase our testimonies of Jesus Christ through prayer and scripture study.

Seek spiritual strength by following the promptings of the Holy Ghost.

Dedicate ourselves to strengthening marriages, families, and homes.

Find nobility in motherhood and joy in womanhood.

Delight in service and good works.

Love life and learning.

Stand for truth and righteousness.

Sustain the priesthood as the authority of God on earth.

Rejoice in the blessings of the temple, understand our divine destiny, and strive for exaltation."

Becky taught that we can choose to be women of faith, virtue, vision & charity.  She shared the scripture, Moroni 7:45, "And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things."

She explained that having charity is like putting on a new pair of "glasses" and seeing others differently & understanding that everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.......so be kind!  Let us all light one another's way.
